Nine LINE slats define this Private Black horizontal metal fence. Half-inch openings divide the rows within a nominal 8 × 3.5 ft section. The open slat fence has clean lines across its width, with 2½ inches of ground clearance beneath the infill.
The horizontal slats are galvanized steel with a powder-coated finish. Their protective coating helps resist corrosion and outdoor wear. Galvanized steel posts carry the same selected Private Black finish; aluminum spacing parts and stainless steel L Connectors complete the connections.
This nine-row pattern needs two Base Connectors, sixteen Stackable Connectors and two L Connectors. Use the Semi-Privacy Hardware Kit for these parts. The metal fence options explain the choices within Modern Yard fence systems, including the different open spacing layouts.
Nine slats use 4.5 packs of material because each LINE pack contains two. Combine the slat counts across the run before rounding to full packs. Short In-Ground supports come from split 114-inch stock. The drawing lists 44 inches of post above ground and 12 below; plan shared supports and free ends before buying the post kits.

Limited warranty periods (residential / commercial use):
- Structural defects in covered metal fence parts: up to 25 / 10 years.
- Coastal metal coating defects: up to 5 / 3 years.
- Non-coastal metal coating defects: up to 15 / 10 years.
- Covered metal finish fading, all locations: up to 8 / 5 years.
For metal coating coverage, use the nearest shoreline of an ocean, sea or saltwater bay. Salt or brackish tidal estuaries also count. Measure in a straight line from the installed part. A distance of 10 miles or less is coastal; farther away is non-coastal.
Qualifying defects under normal use must meet the written terms, including color and coating claim conditions. Metal coverage applies only to covered parts and eligible factory finishes.
Normal airborne coastal salt and salt spray alone do not exclude qualifying coating claims. The metal warranty excludes direct saltwater immersion or splash damage.
Remaining coverage transfers with property ownership. Products must stay at the original site. Keep records of the products and original purchase date. Transfer or replacement does not restart coverage.
For approved claims, Modern Yard refunds or replaces defective parts. The original net purchase price determines the amount. The amount drops over time under the warranty schedule.
Metal coating compensation is 100% in the term’s first half, 50% in the second. Other claims follow separate schedules.
We do not pay for labor, installation, removal, reinstallation, freight or shipping. This changes if required by law or if Modern Yard expressly agrees in writing.

Frequently Asked Questions
How should I buy the nine slats?
One section uses nine slats, equivalent to 4.5 two-slat packs of material. For an isolated bay, five full packs supply ten slats and leave one spare. Add up the requirements of several bays before rounding the purchase; a spare does not change the installed nine-row pattern.
What do the half-inch and 2½-inch measurements describe?
Half an inch is the clear space between adjacent slats. The larger 2½-inch dimension is the gap below the fence. This section's drawing also lists a 42-inch fence height and 44 inches of post above ground, excluding the cap.
Why does the split post need an additional cap?
One 114-inch stock post supplies two short supports but comes with one standard cap. Add one extra cap for that pair. In a connected run, count shared posts once and check the remaining cap requirement against complete kits and stock already available.
